I had the pleasure of meeting Shayna since the early days of her career with Thomson Reuters. Shayna and I connected several years back when I was starting to investigate costs of owning and running a small tax accounting practice. I knew I would need the right tax software, and that Thomson Reuters would be the best fit for me. I’m thankful that my call was transferred to Shayna because it proved to be very fruitful for the both of us, albeit it a few years down the road.
When we first spoke I was still at least a couple of years away from stepping out of the big firm life. Shayna knew that, but was still faithful and patient to talk me through the products that would be important to have in running a small practice. She answered all the questions I had – which were many – and treated me as a friend to boot. And believe me, this was not one simple phone call; we had a dialogue that we picked up every few months when she would call to check in and see how things were going. Picture persistence in the form of a genuine, caring professional. What a combination!
A few years later I did step out of big firm practice and joined a boutique firm in Oklahoma City. My new firm was in the midst of transition on the workflow and software front, and my first call was to Shayna. Help! She quickly jumped to the task of tailored quotes and product demos, and over a period of months our firm implemented just about every package that they offered. We’re not suckers, but are really making great use of the excellent tools that her company offered. And with Shayna’s felt ownership of our account, the transition was as seamless and enjoyable as it could be.
What is most notable to me in my experience with Shayna is the genuine personal-professional care that she has given over the years. And it’s worth pointing out that her investment of time and energy may well have not paid off in any sort of economical way – I might never have turned into a sale at all. But, as a textbook example of persistence might describe, our mutual investment of time and energy into our common pursuits paid off well for the both of us.
All in all, Shayna is an excellent and genuine professional and person; and although I miss her being the account manager for my company’s technology needs, we still keep up from time to time. Surprising? It shouldn’t be. That’s Shayna Hill.
